When to Visit

Best Time to Visit Casablanca

Casablanca has a Mediterranean climate moderated by the Atlantic Ocean — milder than Marrakech with warm summers and mild winters. It is 1 hour ahead of the UK in summer and the same time zone in winter.

Best Season
April — June
Warm and sunny (20°C to 26°C) with low humidity. Perfect for exploring the city and day trips to Rabat, Fes and the Atlantic coast. Spring flowers and comfortable conditions make this the finest time to visit Casablanca.
Excellent Season
Sep — November
Autumn brings warm settled weather (18°C to 25°C) with fewer crowds than spring. Excellent for business travel and sightseeing. Good value fares. The Atlantic coast beaches are still pleasant through September.
Mild Winter
Dec — March
Casablanca’s Atlantic position gives it milder winters than inland Morocco (12°C to 18°C). Some rain in December and January. Good for business travel year-round. Christmas and New Year periods are popular with UK visitors.
Summer Season
July — August
Warm rather than hot (22°C to 28°C) thanks to Atlantic breezes — much more comfortable than Marrakech in summer. Good beach conditions at nearby Ain Diab. Busiest period for leisure visitors and Moroccan diaspora returning home.
About Casablanca

Casablanca — Africa’s Business Capital

Casablanca is Morocco’s largest city and its economic powerhouse — a modern, cosmopolitan metropolis of over 4 million people that serves as the commercial and financial capital of North Africa and the main business gateway to the African continent. Far from the exotic clich\u00e9 of the 1942 film, modern Casablanca is a dynamic, forward-looking city with world-class infrastructure, a thriving cultural scene and some of Morocco’s finest architecture.

🕌
Hassan II Mosque
One of the largest mosques in the world and one of the most extraordinary pieces of architecture on earth — the Hassan II Mosque was completed in 1993 and can accommodate 105,000 worshippers. The minaret at 210 metres is the tallest religious structure in the world. Built on a promontory over the Atlantic Ocean with a retractable roof and glass floor through which the sea is visible. One of the world’s great buildings.
🏛️
Art Deco Architecture
Casablanca has one of the world’s finest collections of Art Deco and Mauresque (Franco-Moroccan) architecture from the French Protectorate period (1912 to 1956). The boulevards of the Ville Nouvelle — particularly Boulevard Mohammed V — are lined with extraordinary Art Deco buildings. The Casablanca Architecture Trail takes visitors through some of the finest examples of this unique architectural heritage.
💼
Business Hub of Africa
Casablanca is Africa’s premier business destination. The Casablanca Finance City (CFC) is Africa’s leading financial centre and home to hundreds of multinational corporations using Morocco as their Africa hub. The Mohammed V International Airport is Royal Air Maroc’s hub with connections to over 40 African cities — making Casablanca the most connected gateway to the African continent.
🏖️
Ain Diab Corniche
Casablanca’s Atlantic coastline — the Ain Diab Corniche — is a long promenade of beach clubs, restaurants, hotels and nightlife venues. The beach clubs (La Caleta, Miami Beach, Tahiti) are popular with Casablanca’s young professional community. The sea is cool (Atlantic rather than Mediterranean) but the atmosphere on the Corniche on a summer evening is wonderful.
🍜
Casablanca Cuisine
Casablanca’s restaurant scene is one of the finest in Africa. The Rick’s Café (inspired by the 1942 film) is a Casablanca institution. The Central Market (Marché Central) is the finest place for fresh fish, olives, spices and Moroccan produce. Paul Bocuse’s brasserie, La Sqala (traditional Moroccan in a 18th-century fortress), A Ma Bretagne (legendary seafood) and the many excellent tapas bars of the Gauthier neighbourhood are essential.
🗺️
Gateway to All Morocco
Casablanca’s central location and Mohammed V Airport — Morocco’s largest — make it the ideal base for exploring all of Morocco. Rabat (the capital) is 45 minutes by train. Marrakech is 3 hours by high-speed TGV. Fes is 4 hours. Tangier is 5 hours. The Al Boraq high-speed rail line (Morocco’s TGV) connects Casablanca to Tangier in under 2 hours.

Top Places to Visit in Casablanca & Beyond

Hassan II Mosque
The defining sight of Casablanca — one of the largest mosques in the world and a masterpiece of contemporary Moroccan architecture. Built on a promontory overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, the Hassan II Mosque can be visited on guided tours (open to non-Muslims). The craftsmanship of the interior — marble floors, carved plaster, cedar wood ceilings and mosaic tilework — is extraordinary. Book tickets in advance.
Rabat — Morocco’s Capital
45 minutes from Casablanca by train — the elegant Moroccan capital is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with the ancient Kasbah of the Udayas, the Hassan Tower (unfinished 12th-century minaret), the Chellah necropolis (Roman and medieval ruins) and the Royal Palace. Rabat is quieter and less touristy than Marrakech — an excellent day trip from Casablanca.
Marrakech by High-Speed Train
3 hours from Casablanca on the Al Boraq or ONCF high-speed train — Morocco’s most spectacular city is easily combined with a Casablanca stay. The train from Casa Voyageurs station runs frequently and is comfortable, affordable and scenic. Combining a night in Casablanca with 2 to 3 nights in Marrakech is one of Morocco’s great travel itineraries.
Fes el-Bali (UNESCO)
Morocco’s most ancient and intellectually significant city — 4 hours from Casablanca by train. The medieval Medina of Fes el-Bali (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) is the world’s largest car-free urban area. The Chouara tanneries, the Al-Qarawiyyin University (founded 859 AD — the world’s oldest continuously operating university), the Bou Inania Medersa and the vast souks are unmissable.
El Jadida (UNESCO)
100km south of Casablanca — the magnificent Portuguese Cistern and the walled Portuguese City of Mazagan (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) are among Morocco’s finest historical monuments. The beach at El Jadida is excellent and the town is far less visited than Casablanca or Essaouira — a rewarding and peaceful day trip.
Ain Diab Corniche & Beaches
Casablanca’s Atlantic Corniche is the city’s leisure hub — a long promenade of beach clubs, seafood restaurants and bars along the Atlantic coast. The beach clubs are excellent for swimming (Atlantic water is cooler than the Mediterranean), sunbathing and the wonderful social atmosphere of a Casablanca summer evening. Rick’s Café is nearby — a must for film enthusiasts.
